BIO
Sue DeWulf was born and raised in Southern California. Growing up with an artistic mother
inspired a life of creating. From an early age she was encouraged to draw, paint and sculpt. She
first discovered her enthusiasm for clay in high school. She continued developing her skills at
the San Francisco Art Institute where she studied under ceramist, Richard Shaw. Later she
earned her BFA from Whitman College, Walla Walla, Washington. Sue has been
creating, developing and evolving her style of ceramics for years. Many of the toys and pieces
cast in her sculptures are saved from her childhood. Since settling in Carlsbad twenty five
years ago she has devoted her time to her family, ceramic sculpture and teaching in the
Carlsbad schools. Twenty years of teaching and inspiring students to find their passion in the
arts is often what motivates her to create her own pieces. Sharing in the creative experience
with children and adults in the community is what makes art a part of her life in Carlsbad. Her
ceramic sculptures have been displayed at the San Diego County Fair and juried exhibitions in
Southern California.
